West Yorkshire logistics specialist Joda Freight is continuing to invest in its sustainability strategy, with the company making changes across its fleet, facilities and wider operations as it looks to reduce the environmental impact of its growing business.
The Keighley-based haulage and warehousing company has recently installed solar panels at its head office, adding renewable energy generation to its operations. The investment forms part of a wider programme of improvements at the business, with Joda describing the move as another step towards a more sustainable future. The company has also shared that the system generated more energy than the site used on its first day of operation, highlighting the potential for on-site renewable generation to contribute directly to the energy needs of logistics businesses.
The investment comes as Joda continues to expand. The business currently operates a fleet of more than 50 vehicles and has almost 188,000 square feet of warehousing capacity across its operations. Its recent growth has been accompanied by continued investment in new vehicles, including six Volvo FH500 tractor units added to the fleet during 2025.
For a logistics operator, sustainability investment cannot be separated from decisions around fleet growth and operational efficiency. While newer vehicles can bring improvements in fuel efficiency and emissions performance, the wider environmental impact of a logistics operation also depends on how effectively vehicles, warehouses, energy and transport networks are being used.
Joda’s membership of the Pallet-Track network is one example of this wider approach. The shared distribution model is designed to maximise vehicle loads and reduce unnecessary journeys, with the network stating that it saves more than 64 million miles each year. For Joda, this provides access to a consolidated transport network while helping reduce the emissions associated with moving smaller consignments.
The company’s sustainability work also sits alongside a continued focus on operational standards and road safety. Joda has retained its FORS Silver accreditation, most recently being re-accredited in 2025. The company has linked the accreditation to its wider approach to safety and sustainability, demonstrating that its environmental ambitions are being developed alongside the operational standards expected of a modern logistics provider.
This combination of measures is important because the transition to more sustainable logistics is unlikely to happen through one major technology or investment alone. For many operators, progress will come through a series of decisions that improve the efficiency of the business while gradually reducing its reliance on higher-carbon energy and transport.
Joda’s latest investment also reflects a broader shift taking place across the logistics sector. As operators expand their fleets and facilities, sustainability is increasingly becoming part of the infrastructure and investment decisions made alongside commercial growth.
