DP World has launched Insetify, a carbon inset trial designed to help ocean freight forwarding customers in Belgium, Portugal and Sweden reduce Scope 3 emissions across key European trade lanes.
Beginning 1 April, qualifying importers and exporters booking ocean freight forwarding services with DP World in the three markets will automatically receive Carbon Inset Credits each quarter.
Customers shipping at least 25 TEUs per quarter will receive credits equivalent to 100kg CO2e per TEU, with the credits applied at no additional cost.
For example, a customer moving 50 TEUs in a quarter would receive credits equal to 5,000kg (5t CO2e) for that period.
The initiative builds on DP World’s Carbon Inset Programme, already operating at its UK ports of Southampton and London Gateway.
Launched in January 2025, the UK scheme has registered more than 250,000 TEUs and issued over 9,000 tCO2e in carbon inset credits.
Unlike traditional carbon offsets, which support external environmental projects such as tree planting, carbon insets reduce emissions within the logistics value chain itself, typically through the deployment of lower-carbon fuels or improved transport efficiency.
Both the UK and European programmes generate credits through the use of incrementally lower-carbon fuels within DP World subsidiary DP World Shipping Solutions.
The new trial will also include sustainability training for customers, aimed at improving understanding of supply chain emissions and the role carbon insets can play in reducing them.
John Trenchard, VP – Sustainable International Supply Chains, Europe, said: “Providing customers with multiple solutions to enable the decarbonisation of supply chains is important to DP World. As part of our proactive approach to working alongside clients, we are recognising an immediate focus on inland activity and a high level of residual emissions within ocean legs.
“The Insetify trial allows for a pragmatic approach to managing these residual emissions as part of a longer-term, holistic plan. I would encourage organisations to explore how carbon insets can be used as part of intentional progress.”
The launch also aligns with DP World’s recent freight forwarding expansion into Scandinavia, including the opening of new offices in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Bojan Knightly, Country Manager Sweden, Freight Forwarding, stated: “The launch of the Insetify trial will coincide with the opening of DP World’s new Stockholm and Gothenburg offices, which were recently announced as part of DP World’s landmark freight forwarding expansion into Scandinavia.
“Supporting DP World’s global net zero by 2050 ambition, DP World Sweden is also aiming to offer up to 25 per cent of shipments via rail and sea in the first operational year to reduce road emissions and 100 per cent e-documentation and online invoicing to eliminate paper processes.”
In February, DP World’s Marine Services arm, Shipping Solutions, strengthened its India–Middle East corridor with the acquisition of DP World Chennai, a 5,000+ TEU container vessel now deployed on its Red Sea–Gulf–India service.
DP World is also the headline sponsor of Shape Tomorrow’s upcoming Sustainable Logistic Live 2026 event in Manchester. John Trenchard will appear as a keynote speaker, at both the Manchester and London events, sharing further insights on sustainable supply chains and the role of carbon insetting in driving meaningful emissions reductions.
